In a study conducted by Weber Shandwick, 87% of CEOs don’t feel confident in their ability to lead an AI transformation.

𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗱 think. New research from Wharton Professor, Dr. Katy Milkman suggests a surprising, hidden barrier to AI adoption by CEOs that could leave them less confident in their abilities.CEOs are the highest status people in their organization.

Research from Dr. Milkman suggests:

✅ They’re more easily embarrassed by poor performance

✅ They're surprisingly less likely than the rest of us to persist at tasks they don’t believe they can succeed in.

If high status is your barrier, how do you overcome it? There’s a mountain of science on behavior change, and here's what it suggests:

✅ Starting small gives us the confidence to start.

✅ Starting small gives us the ability to repeat, creating a streak we don’t want to break.

What does that mean for CEOs? Start even smaller. Milkman’s research suggests 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗷𝗼𝗯, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁.𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗔𝗜 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆.
